Penis Size By Race: What The Data Actually Shows
Short answer: The evidence for meaningful differences in penis size between races is much weaker than the stereotypes suggest. In The Definitive Penis Size Survey, the difference in erect length between Black and white men was not statistically significant, and the differences that did appear for other groups came from small, self-reported samples. Clinical researchers who reviewed measurements from more than 15,000 men did not have enough data to draw firm conclusions about ethnicity at all. The differences between individual men in any group are far larger than any average difference between groups.
What Our Survey Found
The Definitive Penis Size Survey asked 2,545 adult men to measure themselves and report their ethnicity. Here is what the data showed, along with the caveats the survey has always attached to it:
| Comparison | Finding |
|---|---|
| Black vs white men, erect length | No statistically significant difference |
| Black vs white men, flaccid length | Black men averaged 3.7″ (93.8 mm) vs 3.4″ (87.7 mm) for white men |
| Hispanic vs white men | Erect length was lower; other measurements were not significantly different |
| East Asian vs white men | All five measurements were lower on average |
These results come with important limits:
- Small samples. Most respondents were white. The survey has always described its findings for Black and Hispanic men as tentative pending more responses.
- Self-measurement. Men measured themselves, and how much men round up may differ between cultures.
- Who chooses to take part. Men who are happy with their size are more likely to fill in a size survey, and that effect may not be equal across groups.
The flaccid difference is worth a note. Black men in our survey had a longer average flaccid length but not a significantly longer erect length, which fits the research on growers and showers: flaccid size is a poor predictor of erect size.
What Clinical Research Says
The most reliable study of average penis size, a 2015 review in BJU International by Veale and colleagues, pooled professional measurements from more than 15,000 men. Most of those men were white, and the authors found too few measurements from other ethnic groups to make reliable comparisons. Their conclusion was that there was not enough evidence to say whether ethnicity affects size.
Smaller clinical studies from individual countries report averages that overlap heavily, and differences in how each study measured, such as stretched versus erect length, or whether the ruler was pressed to the pubic bone, make direct comparisons difficult.
Why Viral “Size By Country” Maps Are Unreliable
You have probably seen colorful world maps ranking countries by penis size. Most of them are built from a mix of self-reported surveys, small studies and estimates, combined with no consistent measuring method. Some figures trace back to sources that cannot be verified at all. The maps look precise, but the data underneath them is not, and they mainly reinforce existing stereotypes.
Body Proportions And Size
People often assume penis size tracks with height, hands or feet. In our survey, height was linked to erect length, but other features were weak predictors. Once height was accounted for, finger and thumb length showed only modest correlations, and shoe size showed no significant link at all. Body proportions explain very little of the difference between any two men.
What This Means For You
Your ethnicity tells you almost nothing about your own size, and stereotypes in either direction create needless pressure. Men from every background span the full range, from below to well above average. The useful comparison is not between groups but between your own honest measurement and reliable clinical data.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Penis Size Vary By Race?
The evidence is weak. In our survey, Black and white men did not differ significantly in erect length, and clinical researchers reviewing more than 15,000 men found too little data on ethnicity to draw conclusions.
What Is The Average Asian Penis Size?
In our survey, East Asian respondents reported lower averages than white respondents, but the sample was small and self-measured. Reliable clinical comparisons between ethnic groups are lacking, and individual men vary far more than group averages.
Are Size-By-Country Maps Accurate?
No. They combine self-reported surveys, small studies and estimates using different measuring methods, so the rankings are not reliable.
Does Height Predict Penis Size?
Height had a link to erect length in our survey, but it explains only a small part of the difference between men. Hand size was a weak predictor, and shoe size showed no significant link.
